The Shader Factory (Project Demo)

Written by NeToU on Monday, 24 of November , 2008 at 3:58 pm

This is the full demo (2 levels) of the “Shader Factory” game designed to teach some of the theory behind graphical shader programming.

The game gets you to collect different components of graphical shaders to restore power to a building which uses a “Shader Engine”.

You are given a special tool called a RenderLight to help you navigate the levels (which are not rendered properly due to the “Shader Engine” being broken). The RenderLight has its own internal shader engine and can apply different shadering techniques to wherever you shine the light. The available techinques grows as you upgrade the RenderLight through the levels.

This game was created as part of my university degree to research whether a serious games teaching approach can be applied to shader programming education. It was created using Microsoft’s XNA and the source code is available for all.
